Come Follow Me Lessons & Activities for Kids Lesson 12 | March 17-23 | Doctrine and Covenants 23-26

The establishment of the Church, while joyous, did not result in peace. Persecutions have always been the world’s reaction to gospel truths. Yet even when troubles arose, the Lord comforted His saints with peace: “Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but… I am with thee” (D&C 24:8). Through their trials, the saints grew their faith in Jesus Christ.

When we are faced with trials, we should not think of them as punishments or “bad luck.” All things are meant for our good as children of God. In our families, we grow closer together as we make happy memories and find ways through difficulties. If we endure, we and our families will receive “a crown of righteousness” (D&C 25:15).

Come Follow Me FHE lessons include everything you need to make gospel study fun for your family! Empower your children to love the gospel with our scripture-focused lesson activities. Start your free trial now!

THIS WEEK’S COME FOLLOW ME HIGHLIGHTS

Elementary Bundle Lessons & Activities

The lesson for this week is simplified but intentional to focus your thoughts and efforts on the Savior and His birth. We hope you take the time to use the activities provided to incorporate the light of Christ into your lives and into this special season

An Elect Lady

Hands-on Activity

Emma Smith was declared “an elect lady” in a revelation in D&C 25. Using the list of attributes in this chapter, compile and complete the An Elect Child Worksheet with your family. Have each person pick one of the attributes to focus and work on this week.

The Power of Music

Surprise Activity

Have your family of times they have felt the Spirit through music. Music is a powerful tool in feeling the Spirit and converting us to the gospel of Jesus Christ, as taught in D&C 25. Play the Hum Your Favorite Hymn Game to focus on how uplifting music draws us closer to Christ, and is a song of righteousness and a prayer.

A Song of the Heart

Coloring Page

Emma Smith was tasked with compiling the first hymnal for the church. In D&C 25 we read that the Lord delights in music! Find your favorite hymns and sing them as a family while you color the “…for my soul delighteth in the song of the heart…” coloring page on uplifting and worthy music.

Toddler Bundle Lessons & Activities

For kids ages 1-4 at home and in nursery or sunbeams.

Dancing and Singing

Go & Do Activity

Before the lesson, compile a list of your family’s favorite Primary songs/hymns. Write them on strips of paper or sticky notes. As a family, read D&C 25:12-13. Teach that Heavenly Father and Jesus want us to be happy, and want us to have the spirit. Explain that good songs, like the ones we sing at church, help us have those good feelings. They make us feel delighted and rejoice, just like the scriptures teach us. Next, take the papers and sprinkle them on the floor. Play freeze dance to a fun wiggle song. Explain to your child that when they hear the music stop, they need to go and jump on one paper and that will be the song that you sing together as a family. You could even mix it up and sing some songs then watch the lyric videos for others. There are a lot of great videos with pictures on YouTube. You could also put together the egg shakers and shake them while you sing some of the songs. Play this game for as long as your child finds it enjoyable.

The toddler bundle includes a lesson plan and three activities every week. Grab the toddler bundle in our subscription.

“My Law to Govern My Church”

The Lord Jesus Christ was pleased to see saints gathering from many places as the restored gospel began to spread across the earth. As the Church grew, the Lord gave commandments to organize the saints. These commandments would encourage them to live in harmony with one another.

“If Ye Are Not One Ye Are Not Mine”

As the Lord Jesus Christ continued to reveal His restored Church through the Prophet Joseph, the early Saints were instructed to gather in Kirtland, Ohio, leaving behind their comfortable homes and businesses. The idea of living according to God’s way and dedicating their lives to the Lord was an exciting prospect for many of these saints. The sacrifices they made along the way were not easy, but their work still impacts our lives today through the global blessings of the gospel.

“I Am He Who Liveth, I Am He Who Was Slain”

The First Vision wasn’t the only time Jesus Christ appeared to the Prophet Joseph. On Easter Sunday in 1836, the Savior stood in the Kirtland temple and declared, “For behold, I have accepted this house, and my name shall be here” (D&C 110:7). For the first time in millennia, a temple of God was again on the earth.
