To start this Come Follow Me lesson, learn the song Samuel Tells of Baby Jesus. One way you can learn a new song is to put actions to it.
As a family read the story of Samuel the Lamanite in Helaman 13:1-6. Let the children retell the story using the Samuel the Lamanite Figure and place him on a tower of blocks or rice krispies.
The recipe for your family home evening treat this week is rice krispies. The Book of Mormon recipes for Volume 3 are available are in our shop. If you have a workbook the recipes are included in your digital account.
Discuss as a family what Samuel the Lamanite taught. Read Helaman 4:20-24 and talk about the signs of Christ’s birth and death. Use the Signs of Christ Cut and Paste activity to help children understand what Samuel the Lamanite prophesied.
Explain that just like Samuel the Lamanite warned the people, we have a prophet today to warn us. Sing Follow the Prophet and then let the kids color the Latter-day Prophets Book. End the lesson with your testimony of President Nelson and how he is a prophet of God.
Discuss more about prophets as a bonus activity. Show the children pictures of prophets. These can be Old or New Testament, Book of Mormon, or Latter-day prophets. See how many they can name. Talk about how each of these prophets taught and prophesied of Christ. Let them color the Prophets Teach About Jesus Christ Coloring Page.
Another bonus idea is to talk about warnings and teachings from our prophet today. Use the Warnings and Instructions for our Day Match Activity.
