The scriptures to read this week are 1 Nephi 16-22. Read or summarize the scriptures with your family. Some of the main points you may want to discuss are Nephi being commanded to build a boat, Nephi is filled with the power of God and his brothers can’t touch him, they start towards the promised land, Nephi is tied up, Laman and Lemuel are mean to Nephi, there is a storm and Nephi is freed. The Book of Mormon videos or videos from Living Scriptures are also a great resource. You could watch a video (QR included on summary sheet) while you make your own 3D boat.
Read about how the Lord guided Lehi and his family. Teach about the Liahona and relate it to a compass. We have included instructions for how to make your own compass in your materials. It may be fun to go on a treasure hunt or walk with a real compass or the compass you made.
To end the lesson display the print and discuss how the Lord guides us through small and simple things. How does this apply to your life now?
One of the bonus activities also uses this print to continue your discussion. Read 1 Nephi 16:29 and talk about what small things you are doing to bless your family. There are other example questions on your summary page to help facilitate discussion.

Of course this can be completed by children but you will notice it is more intricate and can be fun for adults and teens. Young children can color the make your own liahona craft in place of this.
[ux_gallery ids=”110795,110794,110793″ type=”rectangular” columns=”3″]One of our favorite activities this week is the lacing cards. Print them out on cardstock and laminate them. Hole punch the dots and use a shoelace to complete them. These will also make great quiet activities for sacrament meeting.
