Spring is in the air and it is the season to celebrate new life. Easter is on the way and midst the egg hunts and bunny surprises it is essential that we also teach of Christ. One way to focus on the blessings of the Savior’s atonement is to spend time each day this next week reading about the last week of His life. As the main focus of your materials we have provided a schedule for you to follow. There are eight days of learning and teaching.
Each day there is reading assignment, a time line picture to hang in your home, and a simple activity to complete. Be sure to start on Sunday this week or double up a day so you have time to study every aspect of the Easter story before Easter Sunday. At the end of the week you should have a beautiful timeline of pictures on display in your home.
Here is a sneak peak of a few of the items you will use this week. Watch Instagram for daily reminders to help keep you on track. I highly recommend the beautiful felt kit from J.M. Porium. The quality is excellent and I have had it up all month for my kids to play with and be surrounded by the Easter story.
As usual we have coloring pages for your kids to complete. This week there are even two pages! Do them both or just choose one, your choice!
The story of the 10 virgins is told wonderfully on churchofjesuschrist.org. At my house we used the video called, They That Are Wise. Provided in your materials is a quote, paper oil lamps for an activity, word strips to explain the parable and directions. If you want your kids to think you are a really cool parents and you can even grab this real ancient lamp, light it and teach around it’s light. Using real oil to burn will help them understand the story of the ten virgins even more. Another good option for a lamp is HERE.
Of course there are more materials and goodies this week not pictured. Your family will enjoy these as you study the last week of Christ’s life.
One of the best parts of this week will be to let your children teach you. On Easter Sunday make the finger puppets provided and have a family puppet show. Let the children teach you what they have learned. That is one of the best ways to assess understanding and help them to retain what you have taught all week.
