I Am The Good Shepherd, Commandments

The ten commandments are difficult for children to understand. Who am I kidding? They are difficult for me to understand sometime too. So this week we created this darling game board for you to learn about the ten commandments in a real way. Your kids are sure to love playing this as a family!

To make this even more perfect for this week the lesson title is I Am The Good Shepherd and the board is made to match. If you would like to get these cute sheep pieces for the game just grab them HERE. We ended up coloring their tails with permanent marker to tell the pieces apart.

I mean look at these kiddos having so much fun!

This week I suggest you start the lesson off with this classic book, You Are Special. I highly recommend it, there are so many great lessons to teach from just this one picture book. If you don’t have a copy, you can grab one HERE or watch a read aloud HERE

I provide you with all the details of how to use this book and relate it to the lesson in your summary sheet provided. This was a fun way to relate the story of the adulterer in an age appropriate way. I really think my kids got it. We chose to give compliments to family members, which was a huge success! Of course you guys can choose weather or not that is a good fit for your family.

Every week you get a coloring page in your materials. This one is so perfect for this week. I encourage you to memorize the truth on it and take it to heart.

As usual our weekly lesson provide you with six bonus ideas to use throughout the week. You can use one each night or switch some of the main lesson ideas for those. However you choose to do it will be perfect in your home! Here is just a sneak peak of one of the bonus items.

As a closing thought I wanted to share this with you from the Come Follow Me manual. Elder Dale G. Renlund said, “Surely, the Savior did not condone adultery. But He also did not condemn the woman. He encouraged her to reform her life. She was motivated to change because of His compassion and mercy.” What a beautiful thought for this week. Let us all do our part to love others around us. To give mercy, grace and follow Jesus Christ.

Have fun teaching your family!

Angie

As a family sing the song “Do As I’m Doing.” Let your child choose the action and everyone else follows them. Then show a picture of the prophet and explain that Heavenly Father has given us a prophet and asked us to follow him. When we follow the prophet we will be kept safe from dangers and come closer to Heavenly Father. Use the “Follow The Prophet Activity.” Place the arrows around your home and play follow the leader as the leader follows the arrows. Display the “Follow The Prophet Banner” in your home during the week.

Give your child ten small snacks. Let them count how many there are. Ask them to give you one back. Try this activity again with something like coins. Explain that Heavenly Father has commanded us to pay tithing. Whenever we earn money we are asked to give 1/10 back to Heavenly Father. This money is used to help build churches, temples, and teach the gospel to the whole world.
